Prince Adewole Adebayo of SDP calls President Tinubu a “historic disaster,” criticizes governance, and discusses opposition readiness for 2027 elections
Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, has described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a “historic disaster,” insisting that Nigeria needs a clean political break.
In an exclusive interview, Adebayo criticised Tinubu’s governance, accusing him of weakening democracy, disregarding laws, and personalising power.

He highlighted issues such as unilateral appropriation approvals, lack of accountability, and the concentration of power in the presidency, saying the current administration prioritises political survival over public welfare.
On the opposition’s readiness for the 2027 general elections, Adebayo argued that the real measure is the readiness of the Nigerian people, asserting that the SDP is prepared to offer an alternative government.
He emphasised that his party focuses on honest, decent leadership rather than personal political rivalries, distancing himself from alliances with other opposition figures like former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, former Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark, citing their alignment with Tinubu-era policies.
Adebayo also addressed the controversy over the Electoral Act, supporting the Inter Party Advisory Council’s (IPAC) call for amendments while encouraging parties to continue grassroots preparation.
He maintained that elections must be free, fair, and credible, stressing the importance of widespread voter participation.

According to Adebayo, the SDP aims to mobilise ordinary Nigerians, strengthen civic consciousness, and restore integrity to governance, arguing that meaningful change requires a focus on people, not alliances with compromised political figures.
