Labaran Maku announced his exit in a resignation letter dated 11 March 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of his Wakama Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.

The former minister, widely known as “Mutumin Kirki,” stated that his decision takes immediate effect after what he described as prolonged challenges within the party structure.

Maku attributed his resignation to ongoing internal crises within the PDP and what he called the collective desire of his supporters to pursue a new political direction.

He noted that the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, political allies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and loyal supporters across his political structure.

The former Commissioner and Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State between 1999 and 2007 described the move as difficult but necessary for his political future and that of his followers.

Despite his exit, Maku expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities he received during his years of service, while reaffirming his commitment to public service and shared democratic ideals.
