The visits took place on February 5, 2026, amid heightened political tension in the state following the governor’s defection from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso arrived first at the market, where he was received by a large crowd of cheering supporters, an appearance that underscored his enduring influence in Kano politics.
The former governor later shared a video of the visit on social media, showing supporters chanting and waving as he acknowledged the crowd.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf visited the market hours after Kwankwaso had left. The governor was also warmly received by traders and residents.
During his visit, Abba Kabir Yusuf promised immediate government intervention and financial support for traders whose goods were destroyed in the fire.
Observers described the separate visits as a subtle test of political strength between the two former allies, whose relationship has deteriorated since the governor’s defection.
Political analysts say the public reception accorded Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso highlights his continued relevance, with supporters portraying him as a political movement capable of shaping future elections in Kano State.
Reactions from residents and supporters on social media suggested that Kwankwaso’s presence still commands loyalty among a significant section of the electorate.
