He was responding to controversy over the 2027 general elections timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for February 20th and the State Governorship and House of Assembly elections for March 6th, 2027.
The schedule has drawn criticism from across Nigeria, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who called on INEC to reconsider the dates.
Imasuen stressed the importance of civic responsibility, arguing that religious observances should not hinder voter participation.
“We must educate and change the mindset of our people, ensuring they see elections as a civic responsibility. Irrespective of religious engagements, it wouldn’t take much to come out and vote. So, Lent or Ramadan shouldn’t be a consideration for fixing election date,” he said.
