The defection was formally announced during plenary by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, who read separate letters submitted by both lawmakers.
Ugochinyere, previously elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Nwaogu, formerly of the Labour Party, communicated their decisions through official correspondence presented on the floor of the House.
In their letters, both lawmakers cited prolonged internal crises within their former parties as the primary reason for their departure.
They stated that the instability had hindered effective political participation and weakened their ability to represent their constituencies with clarity and cohesion.
The development has been described within political circles as a notable realignment, as the Action Peoples Party moves to consolidate its presence in the legislature.
In a swift organisational response, the party appointed Ugochinyere as its House of Representatives Caucus Leader, signalling its intent to maximise the impact of the APP legislative boost defection.
The National Chairman of the Action Peoples Party, Uche Nnadi, who was present during plenary, formally welcomed both lawmakers into the party.
Nnadi characterised the move as a decisive and bold step towards strengthening democratic representation and improving legislative effectiveness across the country.
He emphasised that the party remains committed to providing a credible and stable platform for lawmakers focused on people oriented governance.
According to him, the inclusion of experienced legislators such as Ugochinyere and Nwaogu will enhance the party’s voice within parliamentary deliberations and policy engagement.
The Action Peoples Party leadership expressed confidence that the APP legislative boost defection will significantly expand its influence in the House of Representatives.
