The suspension comes just days before the summit, which was scheduled to begin on August 7, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, the governor ordered the immediate halt of the Edo Oil Summit and the suspension of Isere for misconduct related to unapproved solicitations from potential donors.
“Due to the breach, the proposed Edo Oil Summit is suspended, and Mr. Isere is directed to refund all monies collected from donors for the event,” the SSG stated.
The Edo State Government further warned the public and prospective donors to cease all dealings with the suspended adviser, reiterating that any previous transactions should be considered unauthorized.
“Prospective donors are hereby advised to stop all dealings with the suspended adviser,” Ikhilor emphasized.
The Edo Oil Summit was expected to be a major event showcasing the state’s potential in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Its sudden suspension reflects Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to transparency and accountability, especially in managing public and private sector engagements.
