Akinwunmi Ambode congratulates Obafemi Hamzat’s APC adoption and pledges support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid
Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has congratulated Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat following his adoption as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Ambode described Hamzat’s emergence as a reflection of loyalty, consistency and sustained commitment to party unity and development over the years.
He noted that Hamzat’s consultations with key stakeholders demonstrated efforts to strengthen internal cohesion within the party while advancing broader political stability in Lagos State.
The former governor added that the development underscores growing confidence in Hamzat’s experience in governance and public administration.
Ambode also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring his commitment to the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
He stated that continued leadership under Tinubu would strengthen national development and economic progress, while consolidating ongoing policy initiatives.
“As I congratulate Dr Hamzat on his adoption, I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Ambode said.
He further called on members of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections.
Ambode urged party structures to work collectively towards securing a decisive victory for the party across all levels of the ballot, including National Assembly positions.
He also set a target of at least three million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos State, encouraging stronger grassroots engagement.
The former governor appealed for improved coordination across APC structures in the South-West region to boost the party’s electoral performance.

Ambode expressed optimism about the future of Lagos State and Nigeria, insisting that stronger political and economic progress lies ahead under continued APC leadership.
