Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso’s meeting in Kano has sparked fresh talks of a possible alliance to challenge President Tinubu in 2027
A recent meeting between former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has sparked renewed political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Obi–Kwankwaso alliance talks in 2027 reportedly gained attention after Obi paid a Sallah visit to Kwankwaso in Kano State.
According to a post shared by Obidient Movement coordinator Yunusa Tanko, the meeting focused on discussions aimed at “strategising for collective interest” and improving governance in Nigeria.
The development has revived memories of failed negotiations between both political blocs ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
At the time, both leaders contested separately Obi under the Labour Party and Kwankwaso under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) splitting opposition votes in a closely contested race.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ultimately emerged winner in that election.
Analysts now suggest that a possible Obi Kwankwaso partnership could reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027 if successfully structured.
Reports indicate that discussions around a broader opposition coalition may also involve other key political figures across the country.
Some political stakeholders believe that a united opposition front could mount a stronger challenge against the ruling party.
However, analysts also caution that internal disagreements and competing ambitions could again threaten the success of such an alliance.
The renewed engagement has continued to generate widespread debate among political commentators and Nigerians on social media.
