The attack has been linked by the party’s state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a claim the government has strongly denied.
Speaking to journalists, Adetimehin said the attackers disrupted the meeting, which was convened at the direction of the national congress committee.
“Thirty minutes after the meeting began, thugs armed with cutlasses invaded the venue. They beat all leaders and members, dragged me on the floor, and seized my phones and wristwatch,” he said. Several injured members were taken to hospital for treatment.
Adetimehin added that prior to the incident he had personally briefed Governor Aiyedatiwa about the meeting and the threat of disruption.
“The governor said there was nothing like that and promised to caution anyone behind it,” he said.
The state government, however, dismissed the allegations. Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, described claims linking the governor to the violence as “malicious and false”.
He stated that Governor Aiyedatiwa had consistently promoted inclusiveness and civility and reiterated that his administration has zero tolerance for political violence.
Ajanaku emphasised that political meetings across Ondo State had been conducted peacefully and that the APC remained committed to constructive engagement.
