The House of Representatives reverses Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Act, introducing dual system for electronic and manual transmission of election results

Previously, the law required the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to electronically transmit results from polling units to the Result Viewing Portal (IREV)in real time, alongside physical collation of results.
Under the new amendment, presiding officers must now transmit results electronically only after Form EC8A is signed and stamped by the presiding officer, and, where possible, countersigned by candidates or polling agents at the polling unit.
The amendment also clarifies that if electronic transmission fails due to communication challenges, the manually completed Form EC8Awill serve as the primary document for result collation and declaration.
Following the passage of the revised clause, opposition lawmakers staged a walkout in protest.

Led by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, they later addressed journalists at the House of Representatives Media Centre, describing the amendment as anti-people.
