The announcement took place on Wednesday, February 17, 2026, in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, in the presence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The stand-down was accompanied by a gathering of supporters and political figures, during which Adamu urged his followers to support Musa.
A video shared by Agbagyisha TV captured the moment he declared, “I have relinquished my support to Honourable Joshua. I urge you all to support him to become chairman of Bwari Area Council.”
Adamu explained the decision as the result of “deep consultation” with Wike, emphasising the personal bond between him and Musa. “It would not be nice for two brothers to fight over one business,” he said.
The February 21, 2026 FCT Area Council elections will see voters across six councils—Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali—elect six chairmen and 62 councillors. The Bwari race had attracted significant attention as both the PDP and APC aimed to control the council.
The Supreme Court recently affirmed Musa as the valid APC chairmanship candidate, ending legal disputes that challenged his candidacy.
Wike’s role in the stand-down highlights his ongoing influence in FCT politics since his 2023 appointment, despite still being a PDP member.
Critics have accused Wike of aligning with the APC’s agenda, citing his support for ruling party candidates and public commentary on internal PDP challenges.

His involvement in cross-party negotiations has further intensified debate over his political allegiances.
